Summer Learning Journey - Week 1 Day 3 Bonus Activity

Task - Bonus Activity
Use the XE currency converter website [http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/] to find out how much each ticket would cost in New Zealand dollars [NZD $$]. On your blog, tell us:
  1. How much it would cost in New Zealand dollars to fly to each country.
  2. Which country is the most expensive country to visit
  3. Which country is the least expensive country to visit
To use the XE site you have to complete these four steps:
Step 1 – Enter the price of the airline ticket in the far left box.
Step 2 – Select the currency you want from the drop down menu in the second box.
Step 3 – Select ‘NZD – New Zealand Dollar’ as the currency in the third box.
Step 4 – Click on the blue button with the white arrow. It will take you to a second page that tells you how the ticket will cost in New Zealand Dollars (NZD).

  1. Hi Caroline. Great to see that you are taking on the bonus activities. Wow going to Mexico seems to be pretty expensive when you put it into New Zealand dollars. I went to Mexico this year and it didn't cost that much. Anyway it is a beautiful country if you ever get the chance to go. We had a chance to release some baby turtles which was exciting. You can read about it herehttp://tillthemoneyrunsout.com/baby-sea-turtle-release-puerto-escondido-mexico/ . Which one of these places would you like to visit most? I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer learning journey.

  2. Hi Caroline,

It's great to see that you took on the challenge of converting the cost of plane tickets into New Zealand dollars. As Dave mentioned in his post above, the cost of tickets can certainly vary but it's great to get an idea of what it would cost to buy a ticket this month to each destination. When I travel I usually watch the airline websites for a few months before I purchase my ticket. That way I can wait until the airlines have a sale and I can purchase my ticket for the best possible price! I'm currently watching the airline sites for a seat sale to Fiji. I'm really keen to go there later in the year!

Once I've saved up more money I will look to go to Mexico. I would definitely love to release baby turtles as Dave and his friends did. I followed the link for the website that he provided and it looks amazing. What a cool experience!

Speaking of cool experiences, I am really enjoying the blogging this summer. You're posting great blogs and getting me really excited about the prospect of traveling to Mexico one day soon. Thanks for the inspiration Caroline.

I can't wait to see what you learn next along the journey...

    Cheers!

    Rachel

  3. Hi Caroline,

Converting lots of different currencies into New Zealand dollars can often be very tricky and confusing, so well done on getting all of your ticket prices right! Why do you think somewhere like Australia is so much cheaper to travel to than Mexico?

Like Rachel, if you are ever travelling overseas, then it's a good idea to keep an eye out for ticket sales so you can get the best price. Fiji sounds fun, but I'm watching out for a sale to Niue later on this year. I've never been before, but I think it would be a wonderful country to visit! Have you ever been overseas before? If so, where did you go?

I think Mexico would be a fascinating place to visit, but I think Japan would be even more interesting! Plus their tickets aren't too expensive if you get them on a good sale :-)

I'm really enjoying following your learning journey this summer Caroline, keep up the awesome effort.

    Cheers,
    Dan.
